Different Kinds Of Charter Boats

There are many kinds of charter trips to choose from (bare boat, skippered, crewed) but there is also the decision about what kind of boat to sail as well. You'll also need to know how many people will be aboard so you can get a boat with enough berths for everyone (providing it's an overnight trip).





Usually, the larger the boat in length, the more berths it will have. The same goes for either sailing yachts or motor cruisers. Boats typically have double-occupancy cabins so check with your crew and guests to see if sharing is acceptable.

Other than the boat's length, you will need to decide between either a motor boat or a sailing yacht. There are significant pros and cons to both types so you should read up on them before deciding.

Motor Yachts

Advantages:

These are faster boats that can usually go over 20 knots
Luxury styling
A shallow draught means you can maneuver in shallow harborsDisadvantages:- Usually more costly
Will use a lot of fuel during your charter- Your distance will be limited to fuel capacity
Less maneuverable
Noisy engines
Less participation for the crewSailing Yachts

Advantages:

A less expensive charter, though it would depend on the size of the boat
Quiet and peaceful to sail
Can avoid engine use completely except for getting in and out of the harbor
Will use very little fuel
You can travel an almost unlimited distance if the winds are right
The entire crew is involved

Disadvantages:
A slower boat, running between 5 and 10 knots (depending on the prevailing wind speed)
The deeper draught makes it less suitable for any navigation in shallow waters
A sailing yacht can only take a heading of 45 degrees into the wind, which can lengthen any trips that are windward

So it really comes down to what you are looking for in a yacht charter. Whether you go with a sailing yacht or a motor yacht, the choice depends on the kind of trip you want. Knowing the differences between each boat can help you arrange a better charter boating holiday.
