Children will use child booster seats as the last kind of car restraint for children. Children who weigh 15-36kg (around 3-12 years old) can use child booster seats. A child no longer needs to use a child car seat once they turn 12 years old unless they are over 135cm tall meaning they no longer need to use a child car seat.





What Are Child Booster Seats For?

Child booster seats are used for keeping your child safe and comfortable whilst travelling in your car. The booster seat is used in order to give your child the extra height they need for wearing the vehicle seatbelt comfortably. When fastening your child into the seat always ensure the belt is sitting over the shoulder and across the lap (not across the stomach).

Some child booster seats don't come with a headrest and back and is just a basic padded seat. You are best to put your child in a booster that has a back and head rest so that they have side impact protection in the event of a side impact car accident.

Do Children Need To Use Child Booster Seats?

It is illegal for a child to travel in your vehicle without the correct child restraint for their weight and height. Your child must travel in the correct restraint every time they ride in the car to ensure they are safe in the event of an accident. Even if you are only going on a short drive to the shop, your children must be fastened in their child booster seats safely. If you find that your child has a tantrum when you fasten them in their child seat, stay calm and remind yourself why you are having to force them into the seat. Simply tell your child you love them and care for them and that is why you want them to be safe in their car seat.
